The Umayyad Caliphate: Spanning from c. 661-750 CE/41-132 AH, the Umayyad Caliphate was the second of the four major Islamic caliphates established post Rasulallah’s death. Originating from Makkah, the Umayyad family set their capital in Damascus. At its zenith, the caliphate sprawled across more than five million square miles (13,000,000 km2), marking its place as one of the world’s grandest empires and securing its position as the seventh-largest contiguous empire in history.
